Gets the job done with any SD card January 6, 2009 EditorSEM This adapter feels a bit cheap, but it does get the job done. The listing may have been updated since my purchase, but I wanted to point out that it *does* work with standard SD cards, not just micro, mini, and SDHC. Though I knew that SDHC fit the same slots, I wanted to be sure it would recognize a standard card before I included it with a gift I was giving. Happy to report that it does work just fine. The cards all plug into the side and stick out a bit, so be careful if you are moving about while using it in a laptop or peripheral.
It Works January 2, 2009 monkuboy (Temple City, CA United States) I had a Kingston Mobilelite SD card reader that worked very well. I used it on a PC with a Vista operating system. One day after I had clicked the little icon to remove the reader, which I did, I forgot to click "OK" in the popup box that told me it was okay to remove the device. A little while later I reinserted the Mobilelite and apparently this caused it to malfunction because it wouldn't read the SD card anymore. The little led kept flashing. Vista no longer recognizes any card I put in it. So.. (this review is about the Sandisk MobileMate, not the Kingston, I know I know) I bought the Sandisk to replace it just because I wanted to try something different. It is good to have the cap on the end protecting the USB connection. I inserted the SD card in the unit (very easy to do), plugged the USB connection into my computer and Vista recognized and installed it right away. After this, Explorer read the files on the card with no problem. This device also has a nice-looking blue light to show activity. I haven't used it that long but so far it is working just fine. The size is nice and compact and it fits the bill perfectly for a mobile card reader. That first paragraph in the review was a warning to remember to click the "OK" button in the popup box when you have removed the card reader device from the USB port. (edit added 1/4/09): Upon using this more, it still works fine but I would prefer using the Kingston product mentioned above. The SD card slides in easier and I like the ejection feature on the Kingston more than the pull-out way it is done on the Sandisk unit. The Kingston unit feels more solid.
MobileMate Card Reader exceeds expectations!! December 27, 2008 Avid Reader (Florida) This ' little card reader' is terrific!! It has far exceeded my expectations 1) it's compact and convenient-- the size of the average thumb drive. 2) It accepts both the SD (512 MB) cards that are now considered ancient, as well as the SD Ultra II ( 2 GB) cards 3) the SD card fits securely in the reader, was immediately recognized by iPhoto on the Macbook 4) the import of the photos was FAST- much faster than the older ( and not mobile) SANDISK card reader. On these 4 points alone, it's a 5 star product. This would make a great gift too!
Simple and Excellent December 27, 2008 J. Fukuda (Seattle, WA USA) This card reader is about the size of a USB flash drive. It's definitely portable, very simplistic and best of all, works with SDHC cards. Before buying, I couldn't find in the description or on the manufactures website, literature confirming that it works with SDHC cards, but it was cheap, I took a chance - and it works. Great investment, especially at under $10 when I bought it.
nice gadget! December 20, 2008 J. Kalaoui (Da burg) Pretty simple and easy to use with all my SD cards straight!! although sometimes when putting the SD back in the camera, some pics show up as unrecognized jpeg format, but at least they are on my computer and backed up safe and sound!!
