Sports camera February 5, 2010 John K. Youngs (Wilmington, NC) Great idea. Poor execution. The case is first rate - tough and easy to use. The camera suffers from several angles. The battery current is excessive for a small, simple device. I'm in the electronics field and have seen this problem before. Poorly designed circuits designed by amatures. The product should not have ever been released to the public for sale. The battery life is so short that the usefulness of the package is dismal. I will use high capacity rechargeables for now but will look for a better substitute camera to replace this one with. The operating buttons and operator's screen are far too small for this old geezer's poor eyes. There is no excuse for this design.
Great helmet cam for the price! January 10, 2010 RJ (CA) Again, great helmet video camera for the price. I didn't have the battery issues many have complained about. I use the cheapo Radio Shack rechargables AAA's that come with a charger along with cheapo SanDisk 2GB SD cards. It gives me a solid hour of recording time (2GB card + one set of batt's). For me, after an hour of riding it's time for a break. No biggie to change the batteries an SD card during a rest stop.
The playback isn't that great in low or bad lighting conditions. It's more of a fair weather (good lighting conditions) camera. The playback isn't as clear as a cheap cam-corder, a little grainy, but I'm very suprized of how steady the playback was after filming some very bouncy dirt bike riding. The mounting hardware that came with my "motor sports" version suites all of my needs and offers many different ways for helmet mounting.
The price for the 5 meg pixel NON-HD version is pretty reasonable from what it was when they first came out. I think it was $165 with standard USPS shipping. I paid a few more dollors for the, so called, faster delivery time hoping that I would get it in time for a big riding trip. The extra cost in the, so called, expidited shipping was a waste. It wasn't delivered before my departure. The company that I ordered through shipped via USPS (snail mail) so it took about a full week to get to my door step. No big deal, I just wish I didn't pay for the extra cost for the, so called, faster shipping.
I wish I had the HD version for the better picture quality but I'm not complaining about this unit due to price I paid. It has done a good job saving some great riding on film. I'm sure I'll get the curent HD version when it becomes a little out dated and the price drops like the one that I now own (5 meg pixel version).
If you can aford to spend the extra cash on the HD version skip the 5 meg pixel and go HD. If you can only aford the standard model go for it. The price is reasonable and the ability to catch some great memories on video to enjoy over and over again, reguardless of non-HD clearity, is priceless!

I have a GoPro and an EPIC action cam. The EPIC works every single time and can do an entire track day on one set of batteries. The GoPro? Don't know - it randomly stops recording. Sometimes you get 30 seconds of video some times a whole session, but more than likely you get 4 or 5 minutes. Just enough to get out of pitlane do your warm up lap and get started and then nothing.
I would seriously recommend that you look elsewhere before buying this POS. The coolest thing about it is that they give you a ton of mounting hardware. At least everybody at the track will think you're recording them.

This is a great camera which will certainly bring you some fantastic wide-angle shots of anything you want to film. The picture quality is somewhat lower then the standards these days, but then again what more do you expect from a camera that size and all it's capabilities. The 2 GB SD, which is the maximum size it will allow, is more than enough to do your filming. In my way of using the camera, I'm unlikely to get the SD card full, as that is good for 56 minutes of filming. Considering the good depth specifications for such a camera, it is ideal for freediving. Shooting that one clip from a dive into the deep, without having to think about turning it on or off, adjusting it all the time. I didn't even mention the other capabilities, but read the specs on the website and you'll know this is a camera you want to add to your inventory, as the price is good compared to all it's possibilities.

This concept is fantastic. However, I'm surprised that the quality of the pictures, video, and sound aren't better. You must have great lighting for decent video. The mounting solutions are great and cover every angle. No chance to get proper sound while in the waterproof case. How about an option to use it without the case? I would have paid $100 more for a better product. At this point, I've had better luck using my cheap Sony camera (with masking tape over the mic as a windscreen) in video mode with my home made mount.
Still, despite the shortcomings, It's an OK product for the price.
