5 out of 5 stars A must-have   July 4, 2008
E. C. Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil)
This album was my starting point on listening to Mozart. After watching the film in 1984, I knew I had to own it. Needless to say, it is full of the most beautiful melodies ever written. A must-have for every music lover.

5 out of 5 stars Great "starter" classical CD   May 19, 2008
Kathleen Wilson (Clarks Summit, PA)
The original sountrack recording (CD) of "Amadeus" has been such a favorite at our house that I buy it for friends and relatives, and now that my daughters have their own homes, each of them has it and plays it over and over-- it's Mozart at his finest (not too "overly" anything, like some classical CDs!) .. a little bit of the best of Mozart! My 4-year-old grandson listens to it regularly and hums along - what a wonderful introduction to classical music!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent in Every Way   April 26, 2008
Slim Pickens
This is one of the finest classical music CD sets that I own. Although this is getting a bit older now, the recording quality still measures up very well. Many of the cheaper classical CDs I own don't sound nearly this full. Also, the performances are absolutely superb. In my opinion, Neville Marriner and the Academy produce in this recording the definitive Mozart. The pacing is perfect, the interpretations full of emotion. Finally, the selection of music is a very nice, diversified blend. It will introduce the listener to a broad range of Mozart music and upon repeated listening will reveal the wide-ranging musical genius of that man. You simply can't go wrong by purchasing this set.

5 out of 5 stars Wolfie rocks!   November 13, 2007
Ann M. Higgins (Arizona, USA)
I refer to the Amadeus movie soundtrack CD as "Wolfie's Greatest Hits." It's listener-friendly for those new to classical music, yet deep enough to stir and inspire veteran classical fans anew with every hearing.

4 out of 5 stars A Whitman sampler of Mozart   May 2, 2007
David A. Baer (Indianapolis, IN USA)

Truth be told, classical music--like most other kinds--is best heard in the program context for which it was written. Yet any time you can get Neville Marriner, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Mozart in the same place at the same time, you can hardly *not* go for it.

Like the famous chocolate sampler, you get a few of each flavor but not all you want of your favorite kind.

How then to decide? Well, viewing the rollicking good movie AMADEUS tips the scales towards buying and enjoying this fabulous, if disordered, compilation of the Mozart greats that went into the making of a movie that forever dissed the composer's rep but also gained him some fans among non-classical-listening movie-goers.

For the price you also receive a superb liner booklet that locates each piece within the film's narrative and says a word or two about the music on its own merits.

A winner for Mozart lovers.
